ESCAPE TO SIMISU

Book Cover Design | Interior Pages Design

Example of Escape To Simisu book cover and the images used to create it, plus the interior page design
Escape to Simisu is a fantasy adventure about Simisu, a stunning hidden planet, close to Earth but in a different dimension. Chosen as Simisu’s last Seeker, Bernadette has to help humanity remember what has been lost, as a last chance to save Earth and all its creatures. But first, she must uncover secrets, forgotten knowledge, and work out the lost Principles of Simisu for herself.

The cover is a compilation of 3 separate images; the tree (from iStock), the planet (from dreamstime), and the woman (from 123RF). I also added a glow and rays to the planet which makes it radiate. The tree branches and grass needed a lot of additional Photoshop work, to extend to the edges and wrap around the spine to the back cover.

Bernadette wanted to keep the page count to a minimum, so the chapters are compact; the chapter titles are close to the top of the page. The headers are set in Cinzel Decorative (Bold), which has a lovely ‘flick’ to the serifs, and the body text in Adobe Caslon Pro (Regular). The little swirl under the chapter header is a glyph from the font Looking Flowers (Deco). I added a 2-line drop cap in Cinzel Decorative (Regular) to give the chapter start pages some more visual interest, to balance out the text-heaviness.

Move Life Better brings to life the techniques of Integrated Qigong, the Award Winning holistic therapeutic movement method that can be incorporated into all body-minded practices. It’s an experiential guide that trains you through the Myofascial ‘IQ’ Meridians to maximise your body’s physical and energetic potential, a practice to facilitate all communications between every single body part, where we have our entire intelligence, intuition and feeling.

Deniz commissioned some beautiful illustrations (created by Wanda Almira) and I created a layout style based on the energy and colours of those. The book is A4 in size, and has a lot of (white) space, which felt appropriate for the subject.

I wanted to add something visual to represent movement, so I added a swoosh in the background that runs through all spreads.

The headers are set in Trajan Pro (Regular) and the body text in Bembo (Regular). The highlights and quotes are set in Tenez (Italic), using a shade of blue sampled from the illustrations.

MY FATHER WHO ART IN HEAVEN

Book Cover Design

Example of My Father Who Art In Heaven book cover and the images used to create it
When Ange’s parents told her that her father’s tumour was cured, her gut feeling told her otherwise. Far from a depressing book, My Father Who Art in Heaven is a story of magic, love and forgiveness.

The cover is a compilation of 2 separate images; the aerial picture of Paris, chosen by Ange, and an orb, which I created. Ange had some pictures of orbs (energies visible on images and in video, but often not seen by the naked eye), however trying to isolate them to use on the cover proved very difficult. Hence, creating one from scratch!

Uncover Satan, Recover Thyself throws a satanic perspective on the 12 step recovery programme. Ben takes the reader on his personal journey through recovery and Satanism, sharing philosophical principles, practical guidelines and examples of rituals which will support anyone on their path.

For this second edition of the book, I chose new fonts to give the book a more professional look; the headers are set in Trajan (Bold), the body is in Garamond (Regular), and it has additional text styles to allow for quotes, highlights, chapter end notes, and page numbers, which are set in Berthold Akzidenz Grotesk (different weights).

On the chapter title pages, I created a pentagram background pattern which cascades down from the top in a gradient from pale to white, behind the text.

The front cover central image stayed the same as on the first edition cover, but the fonts and back cover information and style were updated.

It’s quite the sexy little book! (Ben would agree 😉 )

Do you have a book to release into the world?

I’d love to hear all about it. Let’s have a cuppa! Feel free to show up in your pjs if you like (I probably will 😉 ).
