Change

They say that
change
is the only constant
in life.

So why
do we
resist it
so whole-heartedly?

I am conscious
that change
is needed.

I am aware
that change
is imminent.

And yet
I feel myself
hanging on.
Not wanting
to let go
of this last thread
of denial.

But I know
that by doing so
the only thing
I am denying
is myself.
